• Newhouse Development started pre-development work for The Villas at Highlands Crossing.  When complete, this 48 unit complex
will be built from the ground up specifically to meet the Passive House Building Energy Standard, providing a 75-90% reduction in
energy use compared to typical construction.  This project is being developed in partnership with the City of Urbana, and will be
submitted for Low Income Housing Tax Credits in Illinois' 2012 competitive round.

Current News and Events
  • Tom DiGiovanni recently gave a presentation on the Passive House Building Energy Standard to a very interested audience in
Charleston, South Carolina.  The City of Charleston has adopted many green building standards and programs and is a national
leader in addressing energy reduction and climate change, so it is the perfect place to provide leadership in adopting the Passive
House Standard.  Newhouse Development is currently in the early stages of planning an affordable Passive House demonstration
project in downtown Charleston.  When complete, it will be one of the first Passive House structures to be built in the southeast, the
first in South Carolina and the first in a dense urban area with a cooling and humidity dominated climate.  This project is being
launched in partnership with Charleston's Department of Housing and Community Development and the Low Country Housing Trust.
More partners will soon be added to this exciting project.  Check back soon for more information!
